What are lessons??

All GISD band students are highly encouraged to enroll in private lessons. Private lessons offer your child a unique experience that he or she cannot receive in a regular classroom setting. If you choose to participate in the program, your son or daughter will meet with a private instrumental specialist once a week at an arranged time. Lesson times range from thirty minutes to an hour. During this time, your student will have 100% of the instructor’s attention. These lessons will be geared toward helping your son or daughter become a truly great musician by teaching them how to improve their musical skills. While we as a band staff strive to work with each student regularly, we are limited because of class size and time.

Participation

Private lessons are optional, but they are highly encouraged. For all students, private lessons can be a great asset to their artistic and performance ability. Private lessons are highly recommended for any student that wishes to make faster progress and gain more enjoyment from the arts.

Lesson Times and Location:
  • The private lesson instructor will schedule lessons with only students who signed up for the program.
  • The day to which a student is assigned depends upon the availability of the private lesson instructor.
  • Lessons usually occur weekly. Less frequent lessons are not an option.

Student's Responsibility to the Private Lesson Instructor
  • Prepare for each lesson.
  • Be prepared for each lesson.
  • Be warmed-up properly before the lesson begins.
  • Record the private lesson instructor's contact information (email/phone number).
  • Supply materials required by the instructor. The materials are typically low cost and are the responsibility of the student. Such materials may include method books, specialized supplies, solos, etc.

Private Lesson Instructor's Responsibility to the Student and district/Boosters
  • Provide student a quality private lesson that contributes positively to the development and continual improvement of the student as a musician, performer, or artist.
  • Instill an appreciation for the arts
  • Exhibit professional characteristics and demeanor in attitude, appearance, behavior and responsibility in every activity germane to private lesson instruction. Provide students with contact information (email & cell phone #)
  • Submit any scholarship invoice once a month. We will not accept multiple invoices at a time.

Financial Considerations
  • Payment is to be made directly from the student to the private lesson instructor.
  • Payment schedules and payment policies will be established by each private lesson instructor and communicated to the students they teach.
  • Payments are to be made on the due date set by the private lesson instructors.
  • Checks are to be made payable to the individual private lesson instructors.
  • Lesson fees- $25 per half hour lesson.

Financial Assistance
We understand that there may be a need for financial assistance for your student to participate in the private lesson program. Financial assistance is reserved for the families/students with extenuating circumstances (personal/financial) that participating in private lessons would cause undue hardship. This program does not provide free lessons, but shares the cost with the family. Financial assistance is not guaranteed.
